Create 3D Face With Breeze!

I think this post is the formal introduction to product reviews. Posting my own experience and opinion on different freewares out there.

I would like to start off with this software I bumped into when I was surfing the Internet last night, it’s called FaceGen Modeller by Singular Inversions Inc.

If you find this post very useful, please digg this article.

FaceGen Modeller 3.2

You can create a 3D face model by adjusting the parameters alloted by the software itself, or you can attach a photo and the software will generate the photo into a 3D model.

I’ve tried it and I did enjoy creating my face with this software. I also made 3D models of my friend’s faces and Michael Jordan’s

The PROS:

  1. Can create 3D face model just by attaching a photo.
  2. You can adjust the face after modeling, meaning you can make your 3D face smile, frown, wink, etc.
  3. Adjust skin texture, skin tone, etc.
  4. Can be imported to 3D software renderer like 3D Studio Max, Maya, etc.
  5. Rendered images can be saved as image files (bmp, jpg, tga, tif)

The CONS:

  1. Although it is available for free download, the free version will have the initials “SI” (or Singular Inversions) on the model. Even if you save it as image file, the initials is still intact. (The purchased version does not have the initials SI on the forehead of the model). If you know how to use Photoshop, you can easily remove the initials.
  2. The free version (and also the purchased one) only has 2 sets of hair, the short one and the medium length (for female). The difference? If you bought the software, you will be given a code that you can use to get additional hair sets on the website.

VERDICT

Whether you buy the software or download the free version, you’d still have the same functions, same features. The only difference between the two is that you get more support if you were to purchase the software. And for $299 (PHP 12,000)? Probably not the one for me.

Unlike popular software like 3D Studio Max or Maya, which is widely used for 3D rendering, you can always find a community website where users give free stuff for others to use, unlike with this one after looking for other sites that I can download a mere hair set, is unavailable, (you can only download hair sets on the official website).

So if you are just looking for a simple 3D modeler for plain simple fun? You can download this one and you can bet to have fun with it (I did! ) But if you are going to buy this one, I suggest you do it when you are planning to use it with other 3D modeler softwares, since you can import your work to other softwares, you can cut -off work time with this.

I still give it 4/5 rating because it’s easy, simple and really fun to use.
